Chris Jakeman from Montane joined us for a day to take us through the finer points of the 2012 and 2013 range of rucksacks which are about to hit the streets in the UK.
In this particular video he explains the features of the largest of the new packs the Grand Tour 55.
This will be the most popular new pack in 2013 for backpackers wanting to reduce their overall weight, without going into the ‘ultra-light’ category.
Weighing in at 1.1kg-1.2 kg it offers a superb range of features for the general backpacker.
Ultra distance trail touring super lightweight rucksack.
Designed to be used on the long distance trail tours of this world, from the Pacific Crest Trail to the Great Himalayan Trail. Developed in conjunction with world leading authorities in long distance travel on foot.
The Grand Tour 55 is exceptionally light at 1,100g (stripped weight) despite a featuring a back system that will provide comfort and technical details specifically designed for long distance treks.
The strong and lightweight ‘VertErgo Tour’ back system can be tailored to the individual user and support load carrying for long periods of time whilst the RAPTOR ZERO fabric in the main body of the pack ensures it is light but strong.
More information about the Grand Tour 55 can be found here.
The guy in the video suggests that you save “a good kilo” of weight by removing the back stay. Since it is a 1.3kg bag that sounds like a very dodgy claim. Is it really a 300-400g back without it?
Sorry … by “back” I meant “bag”.

Hi John, yes it was a slip of the tongue and I think he meant the opposite. Well spotted!!
