The 2014 Sil Twinpeak II is now available from the up and coming brand Luxe Outdoor, who are keen to offer value for money practical products for hikers.
There are few more shelters appearing on the market in recent months which use walking poles as the main support. A popular influence originating in the US and something I hope we see more of as designs get more and more creative.
This one balances the need of one or two hikers who use walking poles, as they can find dual use and use them to support the shelter when they make camp.
As it has double doors and dual entry the ventilation is excellent.
In the video you’ll see that it is a bit too tight for me using the inner nest, with my head or feet touching the side. However on my own sleeping diagonally space is no problem. Without the nest it would be suitable of course.
With a total weight of 1.3kg (Excluding pegs) and suitable for 2 users up to 6 foot tall, this may be suitable for many outdoors people undertaking longer hikes. Supplied pegs add another 120g.
This shelter does come with a small tube of silicone seam sealant, and advice is given on the webpage at backpackinglight.co.uk how to apply it. My advice would be to test the shelter first to see if there are any leaks first, before applying sealant.
